What is Gouache, anyway?

Gouache (pronounced Gwash) is an opaque watercolor with a long history going back over 600 years about the time of the early Persian miniatures of the 9th century. "Guazzo," Italian for mud, was the term that eventually inspired the the French to name  it "Gouache." I love how it feels and looks. It is truly unique.

I often paint on a pigmented background since it seems to amplify the luminous effects of this ancient paint.

Artwork FYI's:

Each original painting is usually signed and dated on the back, or in pencil on the front.

A Certificate of Authenticity will be provided for original paintings and works on paper.

Since gouache paintings are water-based and need to be framed and protected by glass or acrylic. Spacers or a mat is recommended to keep the pigment from touching the glass.

Most of my work has been created to fit into standard frame sizes to make it easy and more affordable for my clients.

Most of my art is available as a digital download in our

Fox Sparrow Shop on Etsy. It can then be printed by your local printer or online resource on paper, canvas, poster, note cards, aluminum... whatever you like!

A Connecticut printer I recommend is:

Photographic-solutions-llc.com in Norwalk, CT.
